“Our mission is to educate the public, especially young people, regarding the risks of over exposure to the sun and advancing research that will lead to new treatments and someday a cure for melanoma“
Each year more than 60,000 people are diagnosed with melanoma and over 8,000 will die from this devastating disease.
Dean Hedstrom served his entire tenure as a PGA Golf Professional in the North Florida Section and was a past North Florida Section Teacher of the Year. He fought Stage IV Melanoma for almost two years and his dream was to create a world free of this deadly cancer. He was especially concerned with educating young golfers about awareness and prevention of the dangerous effects from the sun.
There are major strides being made in melanoma research. New treatments are making long-term survival and hopefully someday a cure, not just a dream but a reality.
With your participation and our united support, we will be able to create educational programs and donate sun protection structures and Wear Your Awareness™ kits
at golf facilities that promote the First Tee, AJGA and other youth programs. A portion of the funds raised will also be donated to the Dean Hedstrom Melanoma Research Fund at the University of California, San Francisco.
